Originally from the Middle East, probably from the town of Shiraz, the grape variety is grown successfully in many wine growing areas in France, Spain, Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, Russia, Portugal and in the warmest areas of the New World (Australia, California, Argentina, South Africa). Used exclusively for wine making, it is mixed with other international reds, which gives it greater strength and better harmony.
