Originally from the Rhine valleys, particularly in the Moselle, the grape variety subsequently spread to other Northern and Central European countries, while in Italy it is cultivated in Trentino Alto Adige and more generally in the hills of the North-East. Used exclusively for wine making, it is suitable for the production of both still and sparkling wines.

COMMENT ON THE CLONE
Constituted by the Geisenheim Institute, German clone of medium vigor, regular production. Sufficient fertility. Suitable for hilly soils, well exposed. Recommended training systems: medium expanded with medium - short prunings. Biotype sensitive to botrytis and tolerant against oidium, good resistance to winter cold but sensitive to spring frost and drought. For its age of late maturation, it must be cultivated in Northern environments in very favorable places.
