Originally from the Central Europe, the grape variety is currently widespread along the eastern Danube; in Italy it finds the epicentre of cultivation in the Oltrepò Pavese; it is also present in some hilly areas of Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Used exclusively for wine making, both in purity and especially as an improvement grape in the blends of local white grapes. The straw yellow wine is also suitable for the production of sparkling wines.
