Pinot Grigio

OpenFR 49-207/2001CloseFR 49-207/2001

ORIGIN

Originally from France, the grape variety has spread to Germany and therefore to Trentino Alto Adige. Subsequently it was cultivated with a certain intensity in the Tre Venezie and in particular in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It’s an unstable mutation of Pinot Noir. It is one of the most important quality vines of temperate climates, due to good production and ability to the accumulation of sugars. Used exclusively for wine making, both of still and sparkling wines.

LEAF

Medium, cordiform, trilobed, open V-shaped peziolar sinus, V-shaped lateral sinuses, just mentioned lower lateral sinuses. Not very pronounced teeth.

CLUSTER

Medium, pyramidal, compact.

GRAPE

Medium, spherical, pruinose and consistent skin, grey - copper colour.

AVERAGE CLUSTER WEIGHT

140 grams

PHENOLOGICAL EPOCHS

COMMENT ON THE CLONE

German clone of medium vigor, high and constant production. Medium fertility. Suitable for hilly, clayey but loose soils. Recommended training systems: GUYOT with medium - long prunings. Rustic biotype, sensitive to iron chlorosis, especially after vintages of abundant productions. Good ability to accumulate sugar and physical acidity, sensitive to spring frost but resistant to drought.

Biotype sensitive to iron chlorosis, especially after vintages of abundant productions. Good attitude to the accumulation of sugars and physical acidity, sensitive to spring frosts and botrytis due to its very compressed clusters.

COMMENT ON THE CLONE

Italian clone of good vigor, medium production. Good fertility. Suitable for hilly, clayey but loose soils. Recommended training systems: GUYOT with medium - long prunings. Biotype sensitive to iron chlorosis, especially after vintages of abundant productions. Good attitude to the accumulation of sugar and physical acidity, sensitive to spring frost, very uncomfortable for manual harvesting due to the small size of the cluster.

Italian clone of medium vigor, high and constant production. Medium fertility. Suitable for light soils but not too hot. Recommended training systems: GUYOT with medium - long prunings. Biotype sensitive to iron chlorosis, especially after vintages of abundant productions. Good ability to sugar accumulation and physical acidity, sensitive to spring frost. Sometimes the phenomenon of mutation in the colouring of the clusters is present.

Italian clone of high vigor, abundant and constant production. High fertility. Suitable for hilly and plain soils as long as not humid. Recommended training systems: GUYOT with medium - long prunings. Biotype sensitive to iron chlorosis, especially after vintages of abundant productions. Good ability to sugar buildup and physical acidity, sensitive to spring frost, suffers during periods of prolonged drought. It presents mutation phenomena in the colouring of the clusters.
