Originally probably from Alba and Langhe areas, the typical Piedmont grape variety has been cultivated since ancient times and has spread to well defined areas in Piedmont and Lombardy. Used exclusively for wine making, it gives rise to very noble wines that take their name from the areas of cultivation (Barolo, Barbaresco, Gattinara, Ghemme).

Medium - big, long, pyramidal, winged, compact.

COMMENT ON THE CLONE
Italian clone medium vigorous, high production but inconstant. High fertility. Suitable for fresh clay soils in hilly areas well exposed. Recommended training systems: GUYOT with long and late prunings. Biotype "LAMPIA" sensitive to cold and spring rains, good resistance to gray mould.
