ORIGIN

 

Originally from Spain (Garnacha), the grape variety is grown later in France where it takes the name of Grenache, has spread in more recent times in Sardinia with the synonym Cannonau and later in Veneto, in the province of Vicenza with the synonym of Tocai Rosso. Used exclusively for wine making, depending on the area of cultivation and the training system, can give slightly scented wines with dry taste or special wines, sweet with orange reflections.

LEAF

Medium, roundish, trilobed, open to lira peziolar sinus, closed upper elliptical sinuses, lower lateral sinuses if V-shaped.

CLUSTER

Medium, trunk - conical, winged, compact.

 

GRAPE

Medium, trunk - spheroidal, pruinose skin thin but consistent, violet blue colour.

COMMENT ON THE CLONE

French clone very vigorous, good and constant production. Good fertility. Suitable for hilly, medium deep and clayey soils. Recommended training systems: spurred cordon with short prunings. Normal biotype with an excellent resistance to cold, sensitive to botrytis in humid climates.
