The origin is somewhat contrasted. The hypotheses are two: it takes its name from the city Prosecco, municipality of the province of Trieste and hence the name Glera or that from the area of the Euganean Hills then moved to the East. The grape variety is widespread in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto, and especially in the hilly areas of the province of Treviso, where in Valdobbiadene and Conegliano represent the prevailing grape variety. Thanks to DOC Prosecco the variety Glera has expanded throughout Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto as well as in the province of Treviso, also in those of Venice, Padua and Vicenza. Used exclusively for wine making, two types of wine are obtained: one dry and one sweet, both semi sparkling and not very alcoholic.
