Originally from the South-West region of France, the grape variety is spread mainly in the North-East of Italy, in particular in Friuli Venezia Giulia, but there are also cultivations in Veneto, in the Chianti area in Tuscany and in Puglia. Used exclusively for wine making in many wine growing areas dedicated to the production of herbaceous red wines. With aging it refines, becomes elegant and aromatic.
