ORIGIN

 

Originally from the Monferrato area, the grape variety is widely diffused in Piedmont and Lombardy. Nowadays it is cultivated in various regions of Italy, including the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, Campania and, even if limited, everywhere in the South. Used exclusively for wine making, both for aging and for the production of young wines from which derives a very valuable product, rich in colour and structure.

Medium, pentagonal, pentalobate, closed lira-shaped peziolar sinus with overlapping edges, closed lira upper lateral sinuses with overlapping edges, open lower lateral sinuses. Rectilinear teeth.

 

CLUSTER

 

Medium, short, pyramidal, compact, long peduncle.

 

GRAPE

 

Medium, ellipsoidal, pruinose skin thin and delicate, blue purple colour.

COMMENT ON THE CLONE

 

Italian clone of medium vigor, regular and abundant production. Good and regular fertility. Suitable for hilly soils, also resisting periods of prolonged drought. Recommended training systems: GUYOT. Sensitive biotype in vintages unfavourable to infertility.
